I've just returned from a fantastic day up at Baskey HQ, where they made up & fitted my two kits with customised Drumruggs, Ruggluggs & Mattmarkers.
Mike Ellis was the brains & the brawn - swiftly attaching all the fittings & passing on his advice & skills - he really went the extra mile for me - twice in fact as I had two kits to 'Baskey-up'!
The superb Theresa also painstakingly sewed a fluorescent yellow strip round the edge of my ruggs - it looks like a space shuttle landing pad - ace stuff!
My kit has literally never felt so secure, like I've furthered the trust margin between my hands & feet to my kit. Not only does it feel incredibly solid, but also has sped up no end the setting up process, as it takes out any guesswork due to the exactness of the Ruggluggs & Mattmarkers.
Both Drumruggs can be zipped up the middle so you can roll em up into a small bag - again - a fantastic idea, as they get less bent, crinkled & squashed this way, not to mention a massive space-saving feature - those who load kits into cars will know what I mean!!
Only after we were done did I realise just how far the simple science of 'putting your kit on a piece of carpet so it doesn't slip' has come!
Like no doubt most drummers who have been around & discovered what works for them over years of trial & error, I think I must've tried every method of stopping my drums from sliding away from my right foot - nailing bits of wood to the drum riser, placing amps, bags & cases (roadies!) in front of the kick, tying the pedal to the stool, lumps of metal in the kick drum, yards of gaffa tape - you name it! So when you finally have the best product for the job, everything just 'slots into place ' no pun intended!
With an increased confidence I look forward to being harder than ever on my kit, knowing that whatever storm I'm dishing out, the kit will hold fast.
A good house, after all, begins with a solid foundation...
